    RECREATION PROGRAM
The recreation program is for all children currently in Grades 1-8. For those that play outdoor soccer, this is a great transition to both maintain and build upon skills. For those that did not, this is a great sport that incorporates non-stop action, hockey-style line shifts, quick scoring and constant aerobic fitness! Children will practice and/or play games weekly within the Montvale program. The season is currently anticipated to be either Tuesday or Friday nights, starting early December and concluding mid-March. Registration is $100 and required if participating in travel program described below. As indoor works hand in hand with outdoor soccer, we utilize the same orange jersey for the program so no additional uniform purchase is required if you have one. Otherwise, a new uniform is an additional $15 each.

    Kindergarten Soccer
Similar to prior years’ success, the MAL has expanded the program to Kindergartners with clinics and “light” games starting in December. Due to limited venue space, enrollment is open to approximately 24 children at a cost of $80 each. (Kindergarten Soccer is tentatively scheduled for Sundays early afternoon time TBD)

    TRAVEL PROGRAM
In addition to the recreational format, there will be Sunday Travel games as part of the Pascack Valley Indoor Soccer League (PVISL) starting January 2018 for players with Birth Dates of Aug 1, 2003 – Dec 2011. The PVISL is a competitive travel league against other towns and roster spots are limited. Games will be held on Sunday afternoons with home games (primarily between Noon-5pm) played at Memorial Elementary School Gym. In addition to joining the Recreational Program above, there will be a $30 travel fee to cover league fees, referees and additional gym times. (Travel registration will take place after tryout results.)

Players interested in playing travel are required to attend at least one tryout session, although attending both is recommended.

    INDOOR SOCCER TRAVEL TRYOUT DATES

Top 10 Reasons You Should Play Indoor Soccer

1. Fitness - Indoor soccer develops three fitness systems: (a) the ATP (Adenosine Tri Phosphate) System for short bursts of speed and power: (b) fire lactic acid system for intermediate power, and (c) the aerobic system for endurance. Indoor soccer utilizes all three systems to a high degree, thereby providing a well-rounded program of fitness development.

2. Coordination, Balance & Agility - The various situational and positional challenges in indoor soccer encompass eye to foot, thigh, chest, head and hand coordination (for goalkeepers). In addition, split second adjustments in body position put great pressure and emphasis on the development of excellent balance and agility.

3. Skill - No sport uses as many of the body's parts in direct contact with the ball as indoor soccer. Furthermore, these areas can be used in many different ways.

4. Intelligence - There are few sports with as many variables as indoor soccer. Firstly, it is an almost totally fluid sport with very few preplanned situations, therefore, nearly all actions depend on constantly changing circumstances, Secondly, there are opponents and teammates to be taken into account at all times. Thirdly, players must react to stimuli from all angles because indoor is one of the truly 360 degree games. Fourthly, players are subjected to numerous visual, sensual and audial cues during play.

5. Constant action - By nature indoor soccer is a game of constant action with very few breaks in play. This keeps both the player and spectator totally entertained, captive and absorbed for a long period of time.

6. Economical - The cost of involvement in an indoor soccer program is very reasonable. Essential personal equipment is limited to soccer or tennis shoes, socks, shin guards, shorts and shirt. (Shirts are provided!)

7. Safety - Indoor soccer involves mild physical contact. Excessive contact is penalized within the rules and slide tackling is not allowed in many facilities. Therefore, contact injuries are minimized and tend to be less severe. The low incidence of injury provides the ideal forum for lifetime participation and allows the more mature or less fit individual to participate for a greater length of time.

8. Climate controlled comfort & smooth surface - Great to be indoors and not worry about rain or snow.

9. The ball stays in play - The ball is contained so no time is wasted on chasing the wild pass, shot or clearance. Therefore, players enjoy more ball and breaks in the action are few.

10. Ongoing development and motivation - indoor soccer provides a place to play and practice so that their skills improve rather than erode during the late fall and winter months.
