| A Letter From 2007-2008 MAL President Brian Murphy | ||
| Dear Members of the Montvale Athletic League, It has been my honor and privilege to be president of the MAL for the last two years. My oldest son, Sean, is a senior at Pascack Hills and I have coached in the MAL since he was in kindergarten. I have made many lifelong friends and precious memories thanks to the MAL. As you know the MAL is a volunteer organization totally dependent on its members for officers, commissioners, coaches and assistants. During my tenure I have worked with many people and almost every one of them had the kids best interests as their primary goal. The mission of the MAL is to have all eligible children participate in our programs. The MAL has to pay for uniforms and equipment, umpires and referees, gym time in Memorial, Fieldstone and Pascack Hills, capital improvements to the fields and snack shack, repairs and upkeep to fields and MAL building. In addition, we have the ever increasing costs of insurance. The only sources of income available to offset the above expenses are derived entirely from registration fees and fundraising efforts by our members. The MAL does, however, owe a great debt to the Montvale DPW and especially Bob Culvert for their great assistance throughout the years. It has been said that you learn from your mistakes. My wife, Maureen, says if that is true I should be the smartest man alive. I would like to thank all of the officers, commissioners, coaches and MAL members that helped minimize my mistakes. In particular, I would like to thank Larry Noe and Alan Weinstein for doing all scheduling and anything requiring attention to detail that should have come under my purview. They both realized it would be easier for them to do it right the first time than correct my errors and redo whatever project was at hand. Both Larry and Alan always had all of the kids best interests at the forefront of any decision they made. They both have similar personalities and although Alan may be funnier, Larry has a plane. John Lennon said that "Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans". If you are not yet involved please consider volunteering for the MAL. If you have such interest please contact any board member. Please continue to support the MAL and your children. Thank you all for your support in the past and best of luck to our new president, Alan Weinstein, and his officers and commissioners. Very truly yours, Brian Murphy |
